Let me ask for forgiveness in advance...but this is pretty much everything you wish Chipotle offered. A SEAFOOD BOWL EXISTS. You can have shrimp, fish, or both! I saw burritos that could be turned enchilada style and queso dip in a world of no guac surcharge. Is this real life? Burritos, salads, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and nachos all made with your choice of protein. This is certainly real life. The menu seemed a pinch confusing but I'm impressed to say the least.

Dear Chipotle, Sorry to tell you this, but we are breaking up. Found someone better, Tortilla Ranch has the seafood bowl I've been waiting forever and a day for you to provide me! #GoodbyeChipotle this New Mexican Grill on the block has stolen my belly's heart! I haven't been this compelled to write such a glowing review for a restaurant in a while! I didn't know what to expect when I walked in. It looked like a knock off of Chipotle but man do they nail their Mexican grill entrees down to perfection! I, of course, had to order the rice bowl since that's what I always get at Chipotle or Freebirds. My only gripe was that they don't have brown rice. (There goes it being semi healthy lol but TBH the ingredients definitely tasted fresh!) Any who I almost jumped for joy when I saw shrimp and fish as part of their menu! It was about a $3 up charge to have both fish and shrimp on the rice bowl which I gladly paid for! Omg plus they didn't charge me extra for the guac on top! They had the standard ingredients like rice, lettuce, corn.....BUT their pico de gallo and the sweet&spicy sauce was on point! I could eat anything with the sauce on top all day! Any who...I didn't want to get my hopes up for the seafood since this was still a fast food joint type of place.....BUT! My goodness was that white fish good. I can come here everyday during lent season LOL. The shrimp was pretty good too! I was just obsessed with the seasoning of the fish with the sweet&spicy sauce on top! DELICIOUS! My partner in crime got the fire roasted chicken burrito! That was bomb since it had the sweet and spicy sauce on top! Lol it was so good that I asked for a small cup so that I got to drench every morsel with it! We couldn't resist the chips and warm salsa! Ugh my mouth still waters thinking bout it while writing this review. The staff there were excellent! They were very nice and accommodating. The place was clean and liked the industrial design type vibe from it. Can't wait to come back and try the other meat and dessert! Plus I want to try the horchata next time since they ran out today :( Happy Eating!

I tried this place on a whim trying to kill time. It was such a great surprise. Awesome service, very clean, and FANTASTIC food!!!

I love their margaritas and happy hour specials. Food is excellent and crew members are very friendly

Clean and friendly atmosphere! Pleasantly surprised that the flavor is very good! I love Chipotle but dislike Freebirds and found Q'Doba disappointing. However, this place offers savory tex-mex, including flan! Will be coming back and telling friends about this place!

Cannot say enough about how much we love this place. The food is amazing here. My husband and I may or may not have come here back to back days for lunch... So delicious. The layered nachos with chicken is so yummy! We've also had their burritos and the salsa (they were giving away free) all of which was great. Service was phenomenal. Constructive criticism: is it seems very crowded (a ton of chairs and a dozen or so small round tables). The over crowding of chairs to tables doesn't seem to work very well with the space they have... Groups would have a hard time if the six top booth/table combos were occupied. Both times we've gone here it hasn't been a problem cause they weren't packed with people yet (shortly after 11).

If one would have to choose between here and chipotle, come here! The menu has flare and is rather unique. The food is more fresh and the margaritas are strong and delicious. I'll definitely come back when in the area.

YUM YUM YUM!! Hubby and I checked this place out last night. They're still new and shiny, yet I was impressed the the overall experience was completely free of the new-restaurant-growing-pains!!! I got the nachos with carnitas - perfect blend of spice (just a little!) and moist, tender pork. Two cheeses, lots of salsas to pick from, and I was thrilled to learn that sour cream was included! Guac extra, so I didn't try that. Even eating the microwaved leftovers as I write this, it's STILL super tasty. That's impressive for day-old nachos! Hubby had the fish tacos; one shrimp, one fish. The shrimp was pretty tasty, but we both liked the fish better. Just more flavorful. He made it a meal, with beans & rice for only a dollar more - nice deal! :) Beer & margaritas are available. I had a "classic" (as opposed to the strawberry offering) and it was pretty good. Not too strong, but the flavor was good and not too acidic. Overall, the experience was about as good as it gets!! We'll definitely be back!

Tortilla Ranch is very close to my work, so we thought we'd try it one day for lunch. Overall, I agree with everyone who compares it favorably to Chipotle. I like the additional selections - being able to get your food enchilada-style, for example. I really enjoyed my food, and all of my co-workers did as well. It's very fresh, very tasty, and allows you to customize everything a little more than Chipotle. The horchata was also a welcome surprise. Delicious!

I work in corporate woods, so I've found myself at 'The Ranch' for lunch more than just a couple times. It's a chipotle clone, but it has better food overall. There beans and rice taste fresh, their portions are sizable, and the pricing is fair. I've probably ate there ~10 times and have yet to have a bad experience. My recommendation: the cod tacos are excellente, and they are nicely washed down with a margarita. Give it a try!

Assembly line food queue reminiscent of other restaurants like Chipotle or Pepperjax Grill. Fresh? Yes Big Portions? Yes Value for money paid? About the same as comparable places Seating? Odd with big oversized chairs and not much room between little tables. Plastic silverware and foil plates. Roll of paper towels on the table. Not the classiest, but it gets the job done. Horchata at the beverage fountain, YES!! Score!! So happy!! The chicken is juicy and delicious. The other meats looked good too as I leaned in towards the glass and scrutinized. The wet style burrito my husband had was good. Though to hear him discuss it was a laugh. "The perfect burrito should have a mix of flavors in every bite, and this one is falling short". He kept getting bites that were 95% rice without much else in there. He ended up just cutting it all up and slopping it all together but then found that flavors like cheese and sour cream had just disappeared. Did he eat every bite? You bet he did, like a champ. Will he be begging to rush back and get another one, I'm guessing not anytime soon. Will we go back at some point? Sure, but he'll probably mix up his meal order a bit. I had the nachos and they were quite good. I'll be happy to repeat!

This place is actually pretty decent. I did not care for their key lime pie but I guess that's what I get for getting it at a burrito joint. Good portions... Definitely still prefer Chipotle.

  • Annette B.

They have margaritas for $2.50!! And strawberry margaritas too. The food selection is small but good. Try the layered nachos. They were amazing. They have a small patio so you can sit outside if you want. My friends and j had a good time there.

This place is delicious. Comparable to chipotle. I love the enchilada style burrito.

I' ve been here twice and it's pretty good. Both times had a plate meal with a burrito and beans and rice. The meats tasted fine and the beans were good. Plenty of cheese on top which is kind of a requirement for texmex. Both times I asked for no rice, both times I got it. But, I wasn't too upset, not allergic or anything I just don't like rice much so did not eat it. I liked the burrito a lot though.

  • Christine A.

I've only been here a few times, and I've ordered the same thing every time, but the nachos are fantastic!! The line moves quickly - kind of Chipotle-style where your order is made in front of you in different stations but they have different options than a Chipotle, which is refreshing. I do believe they have alcoholic beverages available, but since I go here during my work lunch break, I have not tried them.

This place is decent, I've eaten it several times now. In my mind chipotle is always #1, but it's good to switch things up every now and then. The enchilada style burrito is good, but they always seem to be super stingy with the toppings. Wouldn't recommend this place on the weekend. It's dead and the food looks as though it's been sitting for days.

I have eaten here a couple times. Very good. Enjoyed the enchilada style burrito and the $2.50 happy hour margaritas..

No steak? Come on. What kind of place is this? I try to support local business but when they don't have steak to serve I'm going to go to chipotle. I'm glad I went out of my way to try to go to this place.

I went for the first time as a result of 435 Magazine's Tasty Tuesday. Although I drive by their OP location frequently, I never noticed it. So glad 435 Magazine did that promotion for them. Oh my goodness! I had their chicken burrito...liked it much better than Chipoltle. The service was fast, the food fresh, and portion sizes really nice. I'll definitely return. Looking forward to trying some other things. Move over Chipoltle...you've got competition!!! My only suggestion...wish it was just a bit hipper...instead of being a true fast casual...something that was a big comfier to hang out it for margaritas with friends. My friend says they have a great happy hour.

This place has a few more options than Chipotle BUT it is more expensive for a smaller portion. Love the cilantro and I like the spicier choices.

I came here for lunch. The service is good. Unfortunately that is pretty much the best thing here. The food is not awful but, it is not awesome either. I had the layered nachos which is one of their specialties. To me it is fairly bland even with the chili tomatillo salsa which, is suppose to be spicy. The nachos could also use more quest. The menu is fairly small and has only a few gluten friendly items. I will likely give them one more chance. This is my second visit and it was lunch time so I jumped on the first gluten free thing I saw. I came here when they first opened and honestly do not recall what I had. I have to agree with some other reviews. They are a bit expensive.

I'm in love with this place. I've eaten here 5 times in the last 2 weeks. Everything about the food is great. Ever single aspect of it is better than Chipotle or Freebirds. With all the combos of proteins and sauces, I could eat here 50 times and probably not get tired of it. The corn tortillas are some of the best I've ever eaten. My favorite protein is the carnitas, but they are all exceptional. Right now I'm hooked on the enchilada style burrito with sweet chili and creamy rancho sauce.

  • Kay L.

Nice lunch spot near my office. They have a fresh-mex style menu that is reminiscent of Chipotle, but has a few more options (Fish Tacos!!!) A big salad will set you back about eight bucks, which is in line with that other chain. Everything's been fresh & good, and the service reasonably prompt once they got the opening-day bumping-into-each-other out of the way. It's rapidly turning into my go-to spot for a quick lunch without a long drive.

Lots of options. They do charge for guacamole now & their happy hour is daily from 3-7 daily. Margaritas for $2.50

If Chipotle and Freebirds hooked up and had a baby, it'd be Tortilla Ranch...minus the cage-free chicken and organic/local ingredients and what not. So, there's a tad bit of guilt in eating here over the others, but the taste is similar. I got a burrito bowl and it was quite good. Toppings were plentiful, boasting 3 different green sauces! Yum. My meat choice was barbacoa, which was similar to Chipotle's, so it didn't disappoint. But all that said, I'm not sure that any Chipotle-lover/fanatic would choose TR over their first love. Maybe if you're not hard-core Chipotle and have no problem with Moe's or Freebirds, this place is worth a shot. I personally enjoyed it and intend to go back.

Just down College from our long time favorite, Chipotle, but is it ever worth it! It may be a Chipotle clone, but everything is better! You owe it to yourself to give it a try. I promise you will be coming back..

Awesome lunch experience at this new spot in town at College and Antioch. FRESH, House-Made tortillas, made right in front of me when I ordered. Fish tacos - WooHoo! I've never seen Fish Tacos on a quick service menu - they were really good. Crema sauce had a nice kick, but not too much (and I'm a spice wimp). Great salsa too. Decor is cool, service was great, and the food was fantastic and reasonable priced for the size of the portions. I plan to go back and have a fresh squeezed citrus Margarita @ $4.95, it sounds like a bargain and I'll bet really good like all the other fresh made food here. Go check this place out soon!

This place is just like chipolte but it makes chipolte look like the McDonald's of burrito places the food here is so much better though upon entry the staff was seated in the back of the kitchen till.I got up to the counter and there was no greeting during the food prep process they were pleasant but it doesn't look good to enter a place and not see any staff

Couldn't be more disappointed. Several concerns: 1) Went there only to find out that they only have two, yes two, high chairs for the entire establishment. Not a good first impression. Needless to say I had to eat my mediocre food with my 2 year old on my lap. 2) Ordered the "Taco Platter" and on one of my three mini "tacos" there was only 4 pieces of diced chicken. The chicken was dry and the taco could not have been smaller. The "tacos" were more like "taco slammers" as they took two bites to finish. I was unable to send it back because I had said child in my lap! 3) Called the next day to voice my concern and heard the word "Ok" probably seven times. I was really hoping the manager would have attempted to make this right. After spending $25.00 on a less than satisfying meal, the least they could have done is attempt to act like they cared. 4) This place is overpriced, the taste was fair at best, and lacking customer service. I won't be going back.

TR is similar to Chipotle but much better my salad was served in a large warm tortilla with melted cheese around the edges. Delicious! We will definitely be back!

Very impressed with the quality and taste of this Mexican food spot. Came because we had a Valpak coupon and pleasantly surprised. Excellent flavor in the carnitas and barbacoa meats-honestly the best I have ever tasted. Sorta fast food and made right in front of you but sit down too. Like a Chipotle only better.

  • Aidan s.

Great food (better and definitely more varied than chipotle), great service, and decent prices. There's a flavor, spice level, and protein for every palate (I like the spicy chicken!). It's my new favorite quick-stop Mexican joint.

  • Jamie C.

They are very proud of their salads! I won't compare them to Chipotle or Freebirds- similar concept but local KC ownership. Yes- the food is good- but that is relative considering I have only had salads. I order salads bare bones- lettuce, meat- no beans or rice. The salad does come with a yummy tortilla and salsa toppings. But beware that steak is a $1.00 up charge and guac is $1.65 more- they were unwilling to trade out the absence of the other items for my upgrades. This resulted in a total charge of $11.83. A little too rich for my blood considering a cafeteria style lunch and a small scoop of meat.

I love this little place! First went because it was close to work, the staff is fast and friendly. I've only gotten the Ranch Salad so far because it's so good. It will feed you for a couple days!

I had the salmon tacos ... Really tasty! Husband had the layered nachos with pulled fire roasted chicken and he said they were nachoriffic! They had a great special BOGO eateries! Like to support new local business... We will be back!

First time to try this place thanks to a coupon for a buy one get one. The" welcome" from the staff was underwhelming to say the least. An empty restaurant is not going to fill up if customers aren't greeted with some efforts to make them feel welcome. I asked how long they had been open...since before Memorial Day. Really? Less than 60 days and the employees appear to already be in the who cares customer service attitude. Menu item selections are okay. And like Chipotle, or Subway, you tell them what you want as toppings. I had some nachos. Nothing to write home about. It really seems ridiculous that dine in doesn't come on a plate....a paper plate would be fine but in an aluminum pan it creates so much excess trash, it's a total environmental nightmare. And the table tops are smooth so the pan slides around when using utensils. I'm not a fan of slip sliding food containers while I'm trying to eat. The seating: wood chairs and wood benches with no cushions=not comfortable. A few other people came in while we were there but it never filled up or even had more than one or two other tables. It looked like the other people had coupons, too. Note to the owner: Spending money on advertising is a good investment, but before that happens make sure your staff is ready to welcome customers like they are coming into your home for dinner...especially when the place is empty! Suggestion: Show the customer service film "Give Em' The Pickle!" by Bob Farrell to your staff and you'll have better luck building your business.

It's the order in a line style place, like Chipotle. I've tried a few different menu items. I always come back to the salad, though. They start by heating your tortilla on the grill and melting cheese on it which is used as your bowl inside an aluminum container. I generally ask for half the normal amount of lettuce because it ends up being a lot. Several different choices of meat, including shrimp! I typically add a few different toppings, but be careful with the jalapeno ranch dressing. I'm assuming it's made daily, but sometimes it's so hot it overpowers the entire salad. I love that cilantro is a separate topping choice, so give me tons! If the items kept in liquid aren't strained well before adding to your salad, you'll end up with a soggy tortilla. Fresh, made from scratch, tortillas. Watch them being made while you're waiting in line. They're delicious! I'm not overly excited about this place, but I can't see a reason they deserve anything less than 4 stars. ALWAYS friendly and the place is super clean.

Hello! $2.50 16 oz margaritas (with any food purchase) ... these babies are top shelf too, made with Sauza and Patron citronge! Way more choices here than Chipotle or Freebirds and everything tasted really fresh ... the margarita helped too :-) My friend works right down the street and eats there often, not because it's close, but because it's awesome (her words not mine).

  • Nick W.

I visited this spot for lunch. The overall concept reminded me of Chipotle with some additional options. The salad bowl concept was especially unique. One's bowl is lined with a tortilla, which itself is lined with melted cheese hot off the grill. I stuck with a carnitas burrito bowl and was not disappointed. Is this original enough to steal business from Chipotle? Eh...I'm not so sure. It is, regardless, delicious, and I would recommend grabbing lunch here if you're in the area.

  • Laurel S.

I'm going to say I may have liked it better than Chipotle! More options for sure. I got the layered nachos with chicken. Delicious! But certainly not a cheap lunch. My drink and nachos were over $10. I work just down the road so I'm sure I'll be back many times!

I enjoyed my first visit to Tortilla Ranch. My burrito bowl, chips, and queso were all delicious. I'm a big Chipotle fan, but TR had better tasting grilled chicken, friendlier employees, better ambience, and coupons. I will definitely be back soon.

  • Cindy F.

Ok this place just made me a convert from Chipotle/Freebirds. I had the shrimp bowl, it was awesome. The green salsa is super spicy, liked the diced jalapeño and jicama slaw. Guac was extra. Had free coupon for chips & queso, was as good as any Mexican restaurant. AND $1.99 margs on Sunday nights. Can't beat that. Owner Adam is exceedingly nice. Restaurant is very clean, fixtures were not cheaply done. Will most definitely be back.

This is a local store that makes really amazing Mexican food. They sell fresh tortillas that are absolutely deciduous. I personally like the tortilla from here than chipotle. I will definitely recommend their ranch salad for anyone who wants to try this place. Topped with up jalapeño ranch it's simply the best food experience. This place has become my favorite these days that I stopped going for chipotle. They have offers each day and Monday's are special because they always run a buy one get one entree. The prices are reasonable as well.

I am very glad I finally stopped by Tortilla Ranch. If someone asked me to describe it, I'd say it's like Chipotle, but better quality and more choices. My husband ordered a chicken quesadilla and I ordered the nachos with chicken. The two workers were very polite and prompt and made everything perfectly. The nachos could have easily been two meals, but I was hungry and finished them in one sitting. I'll definitely revisit this place. Everything tasted fresh and fantastic and the prices were about the same as chipotle. Try the guac! It's worth the upcharge!

  • Matthew M.

The first time I ate here, the fish tacos were not very good, but there's not many places around here that can do a good fish taco. So today I got a burrito. It tastes pretty good, but not much different than Chipotle. The problem I have with this place and Chipotle, and even some Chinese places, is that they put too much rice and other junk, and very little meat. Right now, when I take a bite, it's nothing but rice and beans. I know these places are trying to save a buck, but for these prices, we deserve more meat. I have never done a review for Chipotle because I don't think they'll ever change. Maybe this place has a chance if they break away from the idea that they can increase their profit margins by cutting back the meat.

  • Allison G.

My husband and I tried Tortilla Ranch for the first time today and would certainly recommend it. We had the Rancho Tacos and really enjoyed the Pollo (shredded chicken had good spicy flavor) and the Barbacoa beef. The guac costs extra, and is worth the price! Fresh and delish. The salsa has a good flavor, and the chips have a good flavor and texture. We bought a key lime dessert to go, and it was tasty too. For a fast, casual restaurant concept, they do an outstanding job at Tortilla Ranch with quality that stands up to a typical, sit-down restaurant. The prices are a little high because they charge extra for the chips and salsa, but you do get good quality for the price!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
